A heartfelt bunny

 

I wanted to talk about my process a bit.  I decided to play with the heart idea so I started with the fence weaving in reds and pinks.  I knew I wanted a '"heartfelt" beast but I was not sure how that was going to come about.  Then I looked down and saw a torn rag that looked like a hairy bunny ear and since Easter is around the corner there we go!  I took my beginnings to show my daughter on Sunday and while we were shopping I found a napkin in World Market that was perfect for the background garden. I love it when that happens.

I believe that all of our creations are self portraits in some way but I know that is true with this little heart faced, sad eyed bunny. I  keep doing fences because I feel "fenced in"  in my life right now. ..not complaining, it's just the way it is.  I  love that she is standing in a window the flowers are reaching in to her and her ears are reaching out into the world.  I did some applique to make that work.  This is my favorite thing that I have made so far with her quirky frankenstein heart and gigantic ears.

Someone in the group said that they would like to know more about our members so I decided to add this page from my Art Journal.  I'm not sure of the origin of this quote but it is hilarious to me!

So here's my story (and I'm sticking to it)....I grew up as an "Air Force Brat" so I have lived in many places.  The moving became a tradition I carried on into my adult life.  So that makes at least 17 towns, 5 careers, 2 husbands, 2 kids and 2 grandkids.  Hopefully there are many more careers, towns and grandkids to come  ; )

Eleven years ago I moved from northern California to central Florida to help in the family nursery business when my Mom had a heart attack.  Now my folks are 94 and 89 and I spend more time doing elder care than growing plants.  Luckily I have a great team to help and it does take a village. Now I live under twelve hugh oaks at the end of a dirt road on their property....my sanctuary from all the craziness.

Doing Jude' s classes came to me at a time when I was looking for a creative outlet and a group of like-minded people.  I cannot express how blessed I feel to have come upon Spirit Cloth.  I remember sewing with my Mother and Grandmother as a child.  It is so nice to return to this art form.  As Jude teaches, it is lovely to hold the cloth and let it tell it's stories.  I am constantly inspired and awestruck by everyone's creations.
